London, 08 Dec 2009: British pop star George Michael, currently getting ready to tour Australia in February, has been talking to the media about his history of smoking crack cocaine, cannabis and his love of sex with strangers, reported The Daily Telegraph.
‘People want to see me as tragic with all the cottaging (sex with strangers in public toilets) and drug-taking… those things are not what most people aspire to, and I think it removes people’s envy to see your weaknesses,’ he said after lighting his second cigarette of cannabis during an interview with The Guardian newspaper in the UK. ‘I don’t even see them as weaknesses any more. It’s just who I am.’
Michael, 46, also confirmed that he’d been caught in possession of crack cocaine when arrested last year in public toilets on Hampstead Heath – a gay cruising area near his north London home.
‘I’ve done different things that I shouldn’t have done, once or twice,’ the singer confessed, adding, ‘of course, nobody wants to regularly smoke crack.’ According to The Guardian, Michael admitted that he was using crack when he was arrested by would not reveal when he had last smoked the deadly Class A drug.
Michael also talked about his love of cannabis, saying he’s down to ’seven or eight’ smokes per day, much reduced from his previous 25 a day, because he was worried about damaging his singing voice.
The pop star also defended his habit of enjoying sex with strangers, despite his long-term relationship with live-in boyfriend Kenny Goss. ‘I do get anyone I want. But I like a bit of everything. I have friends there, I have a laugh,’ Micheal said of both ‘cottaging’ and multiple partners.
