Pill makes girls’ sex drive soar

sex_pillLondon, 17 November 2009:  A wonder drug hailed as a “Viagra for women” has been discovered by accident — after it failed trials as an antidepressant.
Flibanserin did not work as a mood-booster — but made women’s sex drive soar, a study found.
Girls who took it reported greater levels of desire and “satisfaction”.
Prof John Thorp of North Carolina University said: “Flibanserin was a poor antidepressant.
“But astute observers noted that it increased libido in laboratory animals and humans. It’s essentially a Viagra-like drug for women.”
Low sex drive is said to affect up to a quarter of women in the US. Prof Thorp said it was the biggest sexual dysfunction for women.
Viagra’s effect was also discovered by accident — after it was tested as a drug for angina
