Beiging, 30 sep 2009: China, now in the sixtieth year after Mao Zedong’s communist party took power in October 1, 1949, is in many ways proud because of its position in the world economic map as the third largest economy and its second rank in terms of power parity. Besides, the country is moving ahead towards reaching the position of world’s foremost economic superpower. The number of rich people in the country is almost uncountable and every year, nearly 500 million Chinese citizens are being pulled out of poverty over the last few decades.
Despite of the country’s worsening wealth disparity, a little of the country’s population find pleasure in sharing their wealth.

Tourist boat overturns in in India, 33 dead

Idukki, 30 Sep 2009: KTDC’s tourist’s boat, ‘Jalakanyaka’ that went on a trip to the Thekkady lake has capsized on Wednesday evening at around 5 pm. 33 of nearly 80 tourists those involved in a pleasure trip are confirmed dead so far.

The tourists of the boat mainly belong to Karnataka state. People from many other southern and northern states as well as foreigners are also included in the group. The accident has occured at a place called Manakkavala, which is located four kms away from the landing destination. It takes half an hour’s drive through water to reach the place where the mishap happened.

Tokyo, 30 Sep 2009: Dozens of people have been reported killed in the Samoan islands after a powerful earthquake triggered a tsunami in the Pacific ocean.

The extent of the damage is still unclear but 22 people are confirmed dead in American Samoa and 14 in neighbouring Samoa, with unconfirmed reports of scores more missing and feared dead following the 8 to 8.3 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Jeddah, Sep 28: Four Saudi Arabian men have gone on trial in Jeddah for boasting about their sexual conquests on a TV talk show, a media report said Monday.

The charges against the men are believed to be connected to a July edition of the Bold Red Line show on the LBC satellite channel, in which Mazen Abdel-Jawad, 32, along with three unnamed others, told the show about his premarital sexual adventures.

Zurich, 29 Sept. 2009: Lawyers for Oscar-winning film director Roman Polanski lodged an appeal with a Swiss court on Tuesday against his arrest on a U.S. extradition warrant to face sentence over having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

The Swiss Federal Penal Court said in a brief statement on its website that it would make a decision on the appeal within the “next few weeks” after an exchange of written motions and would not give more information on the case in the meantime.

Kabul, 29 Sept. 2009: At least 30 civilians travelling on a bus in southern Afghanistan have been killed by a roadside bomb blast, the Afghan interior ministry has said.

The bus was on its way from Herat to Kandahar when the device exploded, the ministry said, adding that 10 children and seven women were among the dead.
